Rationale:
Considering the declining situation of inhabitants of Sindh
in terms of human resource and infrastructure development,
Dhartee Development Society (DDS) was set up in June 2007 as
non-profit organization to advance socio-economic status of
people who are deprived of unfair power structure, injustice
and inequality. Livelihood resources in Sindh
are faced with increasing desertification, primarily due to
improper land use practices, over shifting sand dunes, and
over-exploitation of meager water resources. Irrigated areas
are plagued with water logging, salinity reducing the
drainage capacity of soils and consequently leading to loss
of soil fertility, crop yields and biodiversity but since
years it is observed that sizeable land is affected by water
logging and salinity. DDS registered under societies act was
formulated to advance socio-economic status of indigenous
communities living in Sindh. Currently, DDS is working in
Nagarparkar District Tharparkar. Its motive is to make Sindh
from hunger, degradation, injustice and gender biasness.
Promotion and Protection of livelihood resources, human
rights including women and children rights, gender equality,
and sustainable land management are fundamental objectives
of DDS activities. DDS also focuses on enhancing positive
role of media and engaging them in entire process of change
by building capacity of Journalists.
In regard to achieving the objectives, DDS has been engaged
in community mobilization, capacity building, research, and
advocacy and service delivery programs by adopting right
based approach.
Mission:
To
enrage and mobilize communities towards formation of
institutions at grassroots level, environmental protection,
and secure livelihoods resources and evolve sustainable
strategies to address environmental issues through raising
awareness,
